Alex Kimata

Alex Kimata joined Milgrom & Daskam in 2018 and specializes in general corporate, data security, and intellectual property law.

Alex attended the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder where he was involved in many aspects of the community.  He won best oralist in the National Telecommunication Moot Court Competition, where his team won best brief and first place.  He was also a competitor on the Moot Court National Team and served as the Outside Competitions’ Chair for the Moot Court Board.   Alex served as an Articles Editor on the Colorado Technology Law Journal, where he oversaw the review of professional articles to ensure they were appropriate for publication.  He published an article titled “MalFISAance 702” in the journal, where he examined problems and potential solutions in Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

During law school, Alex interned at the Colorado Supreme Court as a judicial clerk for Justice Boatright, the Attorney General’s Office, the cybersecurity and security software company Webroot, and the National Emergency Number Association.

Alex cares deeply about access to justice.  Before law school, he volunteered at Colorado Legal Services and saw firsthand just how hard it was for people to overcome basic legal hurdles.  This passion was also driven by his previous experience teaching English to low-income children in Santiago, Chile and seeing how access to English could change lives.  During law school, he volunteered for the Innocence Project where he helped identify cases that deserved deeper investigation, as well as at the Technology and Policy Clinic, where he helped represent researchers and other public policy professionals to advocate for the public interest on cutting-edge technology policy issues, such as research on election security.

A Colorado native, Alex enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and trying new restaurants and breweries that continue to pop up in the metro area.  His parents are from Hawaii, and he strives to visit his family there as often as possible.  Alex dreams of seeing the northern lights someday.
